Our beginners sailing course is an introduction to sailing for complete newcomers. Classes are kept small so every student gets individual attention from the instructor, and lessons take place on the water off the Gateway of India.
What you will learn
- Water safety and wearing a life jacket correctly
- Wind awareness — understanding where the wind is coming from and how it drives the boat
- Basic boat handling: steering, sail trim and tacking
- Seamanship and respect for the marine environment

All instructors at Gateway Sailing Club are certified YAI (Yachting Association of India) dinghy instructors.

Do I need to know how to swim?
Please tell us your swimming ability when you enquire. Life jackets are worn while sailing, and the instructors will advise you on the requirements for the course.
